Job Title: Senior Telecommunications Technical Support Engineer (Carrier Ethernet / Nokia SME)

Location: 100% Remote

Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000 / year

Role Type: Full-Time, Tier II / Tier III Escalation Support

The Opportunity

A global leader in telecom and digital infrastructure services is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Technical Support Engineer to serve as the ultimate Tier II/Tier III escalation point for a highly specialized EDGE initiative. In this role, you won't be following a standard playbook—you will be the one writing it. You will resolve complex, systemic network outages across large-scale Switched Ethernet Services (SES) and provide technical mentorship to peer engineers.

What You’ll Do

• Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for remote Tier II/Tier III troubleshooting on Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent service routers.
• Trace complex faults through multi-platform data paths within a strictly Layer 2 Carrier Ethernet environment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve advanced issues related to VPLS/VPWS multipoint architecture, MAC address exhaustion, and Forwarding Database (FDB) limits.
• Manage complex encapsulation, including Q-in-Q (802.1ad) VLAN translation and MTU overhead fragmentation.
• Ensure carrier-grade network resiliency by troubleshooting loop prevention protocols like G.8032 (ERPS) .
• Develop job aids, technical manuals, and training materials for newer team members.

The "Must-Haves" (Required Qualifications)

• 10+ years of OEM-level troubleshooting and repair experience in a telecommunications carrier environment.
• Strict Hardware Proficiency: Deep, hands-on administrative and troubleshooting experience with Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS, 7750 SR, and/or 7950 XRS platforms.
• Domain Expertise: Absolute Subject Matter Expertise in Switched Ethernet Services (SES) and Carrier Ethernet.
• Protocol Mastery: Proven ability to troubleshoot Layer 2 mechanics (VPLS, Q-in-Q, G.8032, Dot1p marking) without relying on IP/MPLS Layer 3 routing protocols.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours and provide on-call coverage as needed to resolve systemic outages.
