Field Pipe Welder Needed

Pay: $30-$35

Location: Huntersville, NC

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Pipe Welder with advanced proficiency in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) for stainless steel piping systems. This position requires the ability to produce code-quality welds and successfully pass a 6G qualification weld test on 2” NPS stainless steel Schedule 80 pipe in accordance with applicable welding standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual GTAW (TIG) open-root pipe welding on stainless steel piping systems.
  • Weld 2” NPS Schedule 80 stainless steel pipe in the 6G (45° fixed) position.
  • Execute high-quality root pass, hot pass, fill, and cap welds with full fusion and penetration.
  • Set up and maintain argon shielding gas and internal purge systems to ensure oxidation-free root welds.
  • Select and use proper filler metals (e.g., ER308L / ER316L) per material specifications.
  • Control heat input, arc length, travel speed, and interpass temperature to prevent distortion and ensure metallurgical integrity.
  • Perform accurate pipe fit-up, including bevel angle, land (root face), root opening, and alignment tolerances.
  • Read and interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), isometric drawings, P&IDs, and weld symbols.
  • Ensure welds meet Section IX qualification requirements and applicable piping codes (e.g., B31.3).
  • Conduct self-inspection of welds for compliance with visual (VT) standards; support PT/NDE as required.
  • Maintain a clean work area and adhere to all job site safety and quality control procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr.
