California Licensed Attorney – Lead and Establish AWKO’s California Office (Survivor Advocacy Practice)
Company Overview
Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz, PLLC (AWKO) is a nationally recognized law firm dedicated to protecting individuals injured or harmed by negligence, exploitation, or abuse. With attorneys across the country licensed in multiple states, AWKO’s mission is rooted in advocacy, accountability, and empowerment. We stand with survivors—seeking justice through compassion, excellence, and relentless pursuit of truth.
Position Summary
AWKO is seeking a California-licensed attorney to lead the firm’s efforts in establishing and developing a physical California office, focusing on representing victims of child abuse, sexual assault, and exploitation, including CSAM-related cases. This role blends meaningful advocacy with the opportunity to build and lead a thriving practice area in one of the most vital legal spaces in the nation.
We are looking for an experienced litigator with strong courtroom, client management, and leadership skills—someone inspired by the opportunity to shape a survivor-centered practice that serves communities across California. Direct sexual assault or CSAM litigation experience is not required, though prior experience in complex civil litigation, personal injury, or government prosecutions is highly valuable.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead litigation efforts on behalf of survivors of exploitation and abuse.
• Collaborate with the firm’s national Survivor Advocacy team to develop case strategies and trial preparation.
• Engage actively with community advocates, mental health professionals, and survivor support networks.
• Contribute to national efforts advancing survivor justice initiatives and policy development.
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in California.
• Demonstrated experience in litigation (civil, criminal, or government).
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
• Passion for survivor representation, social justice, and trauma-informed advocacy.
• Ability to build and expand practice areas while maintaining AWKO’s core values of empathy, integrity, and results-driven advocacy.
Litigation Backgrounds
Candidates with prior service in the Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps or as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) are strongly encouraged to apply as well. Your background in government or military justice complements AWKO’s mission to empower and defend those most in need of trust and representation.
Compensation and Growth
This position offers a highly competitive compensation structure commensurate with experience, along with ample opportunity for professional growth. AWKO provides comprehensive benefits and fosters an inclusive, collaborative environment driven by purpose and excellence.
