Lead Nuclear Accountability Specialist

Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Lead Nuclear Accountability Specialist position at our client site.

Salary: $65 - $70/hr

Location: Aiken, SC

Citizenship: US Citizenship Required

Work Schedule: Up to a 40-hour work week; Part-Time

Clearance: DOE “Q” Clearance (must be able to obtain and maintain)

Mandatory Experience Requirement – Read Before Applying

  • Candidates must have significant experience in Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMC&A) at a DOE/NNSA site , including hands-on accounting responsibilities.
  • Candidates must have experience with Local Area Nuclear Material Accounting Software (LANMAS) and day-to-day nuclear material accounting operations.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” clearance ; applicants unable to meet clearance requirements will not be considered.

This role serves as a senior technical leader responsible for ensuring the integrity, compliance, and effectiveness of nuclear material accounting systems and processes. The position directly supports national security objectives by maintaining strict accountability of nuclear materials, leading system improvements, and interfacing with federal and international oversight organizations.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the Nuclear Material Control and Accountability (NMC&A) Programs Topical Area, including system effectiveness planning and execution
  • Oversee and manage Manual 14Q procedures, including reviews, revisions, and approvals
  • Develop and issue the Annual NMC&A System Effectiveness Report
  • Lead performance testing (PT) of NMC&A systems, including creation and approval of test scenarios
  • Design and execute Enterprise Assessments (EA) and Limited Notice Performance Tests (LNPT)
  • Serve as NMC&A Training Subject Matter Expert (SME); develop, maintain, and deliver training courses
  • Monitor anomalies and document findings within system effectiveness plans
  • Approve NMC&A self-assessment cards and develop Lines of Inquiry (LOIs)
  • Support classification activities and vulnerability/security risk assessments
  • Act as SME liaison to the International Atomic Energy Agency
  • Support budgeting activities and provide management feedback on team performance
  • Lead development and integration of nuclear material accounting software with operational systems
  • Oversee testing and evaluation of accounting software deployments
  • Serve as backup Site Shipping and Receiving Coordinator
  • Perform Management Field Observations (MFOs)
  • Develop strategies for new site missions involving nuclear material accountability

Minimum Qualifications

  • Significant experience in Nuclear Material Control and Accountability (NMC&A) at a DOE/NNSA site
  • Hands-on experience with LANMAS and nuclear material accounting processes
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance
  • Strong understanding of DOE nuclear material accounting systems and reporting requirements
  • Proficiency in data analysis, spreadsheets, and complex problem-solving
  • Familiarity with nuclear material measurement techniques
  • Ability to support audits, assessments, and compliance activities

Desired Skills

  • Experience developing software requirements for nuclear accounting system integration
  • Familiarity with Savannah River Site (SRS) accounting practices
  • QMF/SQL training
  • CPA certification (preferred)
  • Strong leadership, training, and cross-functional coordination skills

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field (accounting preferred) and 12 years of relevant experience
  • OR
  • Advanced degree (MBA or MS) with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • OR
  • 8 years of Material Control & Accountability experience in lieu of a degree
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of accounting, chemistry, and physics as applied to nuclear material tracking
