Overview

INTRODUCTION

The Electric Boat shipyard is experiencing a period of continued unprecedented growth of existing and recently acquired facilities for renovations and fit out of new buildings. Now is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team responsible for shaping the future of the shipyard.

The Groton Facilities Engineering department is comprised of Engineers, Project Managers and Designers. We are seeking a seasoned civil / structural engineer to provide engineering of critical infrastructure and project management for the 110+ year old Groton shipyard and local sites.

GENERAL

The candidate must be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work independently and seek guidance when needed. Candidate must establish a working relationship with facilities engineers, project managers, trade personnel, vendors, management, building officials and our Customer. Aptitude to read, understand and perform duties in compliance to the many EB procedures, policies and requirements are required.

SAFETY

Knowledge of OSHA 1910, 1915 and 1926 minimum requirements to enable adherence to both Electric Boats Safety Manual and Contractor Safety, Health, and Regulations Manual.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Responsibilities include engineering and developing the scope of work, preparing bid documents, vendor selection, securing internal funding, preparing purchase requisitions and in field project management of contractors and engineering design agents.

Additional duties include maintaining project quality, schedule, budget, contract requirements, subcontractors compliance, suppliers, estimates, documentation, close out, turnover and other duties required to execute. Candidate will be responsible for oversight of day-to-day construction activities and the successful execution of multiple simultaneous projects. Candidate will be responsible to develop ROM estimates and business cases to obtain funding.

Candidate must possess excellent written and communication skills to effectively run meeting and report project status to management and senior leadership.

ENGINEERING

The types of systems the candidate will be involved in are docks and marine structures, building structures, roadways, drainage, crane rail systems, underground utility systems.

Duties include: engineering analysis, floor loading, underground structure loads for heavy components, rehabilitation of columns, beams, reinforced concrete, post tensioned concrete, column sizing, and rehabilitation of deteriorated members.

This position requires cross function, multi-discipline skills, including knowledge of: architectural, building envelope, civil, structural, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, other infrastructure and critical systems as they relate to the Groton shipyard and ancillary sites within Connecticut.

  • Experience with Microsoft: Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and Word

Qualifications

Required:

  • BS (or higher) in Civil, Structural, or Marine Engineering
  • 5+ years post graduate experience in engineering or construction project management

Preferred:

  • 3+ years or more experience in leadership position in an engineering or project management environment
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Connecticut
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Experience with CMMS software Corrigo, Oracle and Procure
